Text for A Budbill Year by Liz Benjamin by David Budbill I. A Certain Slant of Light A certain slant of light this time of year says more than color in the hills or chill air that fall is here. II. First Thing in the Morning Slate-colored junco tracks on the porch printed neatly in the thin snow. III. Early June Hard rain all night morning rags of mist Hang scattered between the blue-green hills. IV. How Nice It Is How nice it is on a summer night with the windows open and listen to the thunder far away and hear the thunder come closer and see the lightning light up the sky and then lie in bed in the dark and listen to the rain.

Text for Pastorale by Dan Maguire by Hart Crane No more violets, And the year Broken into smoky panels. What woods remember now Her calls, her enthusiasms. The ritual of sap and leaves The sun drew out, Ends in this latter muffled Bronze and brass. The wind Takes rein. If, dusty, I bear And image beyond this Already fallen harvest, I can only query, “Fool— Have you remembered too long; Or was there too little said For ease or resolution— Summer scarcely begun And violets, A few picked, the rest dead?”
3.
Text for The Stars are the Mountain Peaks by Drew Kravin Adapted from Henry David Thoreau The stars are the mountain peaks of celestial countries. The universe is wider than our views of it. Time hides no treasures. Live in the present. Fools stand on their island…and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this. The question is not what you look at, but what you see. Launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. The stars are the mountain peaks of celestial countries. The universe is wider than our views of it.
